How Dangerous is Mercury? Shocking Harmful Effects of Mercury to the Human Body

Today there is little doubt regarding the devastating and harmful effects of mercury to the human body. The living body is a complex system that’s comprised of several sub-organisms and sub-systems, which function in perfect harmony. It needs to nourish and renew itself every regularly and in order to do so it depends on its metabolism. However, when mercury is ingested or induced into the body, it grabs all the essential minerals and nutrients, affecting the function of enzymes and thus causes havoc. Mercury significantly disturbs pathways which are an integral part of the metabolic and nervous systems, leading to the development of severe psychiatric symptoms. Here is a look into the dangers of mercury.

How Dangerous is Mercury?

Firstly it’s important to realize that mercury is the most none-radioactive toxic element found on the surface of the Earth. What makes mercury so dangerous is the fact that it progressively accumulates in the body and is quite difficult to detoxify. The body struggles hard to rid itself from this toxic element naturally thus mercury can sit and build-up over a period of time. To analyze how this element affects the human body we must also understand how mercury gets into our system. Read below and you’ll see why.

How Mercury Enters Human Body

Unfortunately we are exposed to mercury in the modern life in various different ways, which includes but not limited to food, water, air, inoculations and even by coming in contact with the skin.

One of the most aggressive ways the human body accumulates and stores this toxic element is through vaccines, especially when administered a very young age with a low body mass. Unfortunately many vaccines today contain trace amounts of mercury in the form of an additive compound called Thimerosal.

The food we eat also has unnaturally accumulated mercury. Due to water pollution seafood such as Tuna, Sea-Bass, Shark, Marlin and other species of shellfish contain some of the highest levels of mercury. Some pesticides and herbicides used in none-organic agriculture contain mercury, which we then ingest this mercury content directly into our bodies.

Some experts say that about 20 to 30% of mercury in the human body is absorbed through breathing. Amongst other, fluorescent lights and dental filling also emit mercury vapor which finds its way into our systems.

Mercury Increases Risk of Cancer

Numerous studies have depicted the adverse effects that mercury has on the human DNA. Sodium and calcium are very instrumental when it comes to the transportation of oxygen through cell membrane. Unfortunately, mercury disturbs this transportation, distorting the critical pH balance in the cells. The acidification can affect the cellular integrity leading to pre-mature aging and even worse affecting the DNA in your cellular nucleus. This can lead to abnormal replication of the affected cells and gene mutation which increases susceptibility to cancer.

The Effect of Mercury on Body Immunity

Our immune system is highly compromised in the presence of mercury, which “fixes” itself on to the essential selenium. By doing this mercury disables the selenoenzyme pathway of gluthathione peroxidase; this is basically the main intracellular antioxidant, responsible for protecting human cells from the danger posed by free radicals. Scientists have shown that in this way, mercury mimics the behavior of HIV 1, weakening the immune system and thus reducing your body’s response to diseases.

 How Mercury Affects the Brain

Mercury is a neurotoxin other times referred to as an excitotoxin, which causes significant brain neuron degeneration, vastly more signficiant that the effects many metals including Aluminum and even Lead. In other words, it contains detrimental effects on the human nervous system; especially our brain, which is one of the most dangerous and harmful effects of mercury on the human body. Mercury and its compounds can cause adverse damage on brain cells leading to both emotional and physical disorders such as hallucinations, delirium, suicidal tendencies and violent muscular spasms which can even lead to death. Its effect on methylation has been known to cause mental illness, particularly bipolar disorder and autism. Here is a great video showing exactly how mercury affects the brain:

Dangers of mercury to the Heart

Mercury can interfere with the body’s chief amino acids; serine, methionine, threonine and taurine, leading to hypertension. Mercury disrupts the methylation process, thereby interfering with the replication of DNA and leading to very high homocysteine elevations. High homocysteine elevations have a strong link to the life-threatening heart diseases.

The information explained in this article is  just some of harmful effects of mercury and a short spectrum of its potential dangers. In many ways we are not able to completely stop mercury exposure, but it is exceptionally important that at least we try to minimize this. It also is important that we use and promote mercury-free products and start taking another look at the dangers of modern vaccines. Although mercury is an extremely toxic and damaging substance to the human body and difficult to remove, with the right method it can be reduced and removed from the body. Various naturopathic detoxification methods today are avaialbe to aid with this detoxification, others have had success reducing the mercury build up by using products like food grade diatomaceous earth. But as in every other detoxification program the first step is always to remove the source of toxicity.
